Alan King is a poet and journalist who writes about art and domestic issues on his blog. In addition to teaching creative writing throughout the DC/Baltimore region, he’s a part-time poetry instructor at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and the senior program director at the DC Creative Writing Workshop at Charles Hart Middle School in DC’s Congress Heights neighborhood. He is a Cave Canem fellow, VONA Alum, a Stonecoast MFA canditate, and a two-time Best of the Net nominee. He's also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Drift (Willow Books, 2012) is his first book. She has also studied under, and worked with numerous herbalists. Yaba A. Blay, Ph.D. is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at Lafayette College where she also teaches courses in Women’s & Gender Studies. She received her Ph.D. in African American Studies from Temple University. While her broader research interests are related to Africana cultural aesthetics and aesthetic practices, issues of gender in Africa and the Diaspora, and global Black popular culture, her specific research interests lie within the politics of embodiment and Black identities. She is currently editing her first book-length manuscript, Yellow Fever: Skin Bleaching and the Politics of Skin Color, which investigates the social practice of skin bleaching in Ghana. Dr. Blay is the recipient of a 2010 Leeway Foundation Art and Change Grant through which she embarked upon her latest book project, (1)ne Drop: Conversations on Skin Color, Race, and Identity. Shantrel is Director of Public Programming and Exhibitions at the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI). As an independent curator, Shantrelle has executed shows and several different institutions including the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Art, Aljira, A Center for Contemporary Art and the African American Museum in Philadelphia. Her curatorial credits include exhibitions on a variety of topics ranging from African Spirituality to a tribute to world-renowned photographer Jamel Shabazz. She has worked with a host of emerging artists in various media. Current traveling curatorial projects include Sex Crimes Against Black Girls and Dandy Lion: Articulating a Re(de)fined Black Masculine Identity which is on view at Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore, MD through May 2012.

During his tenure as president of the Black Student Union, Mr. Mutafa created the Words Beats & Life Hip-Hop Conference, a six-day hip-hop conference that endeavored to expand the potential impact of hip-hop as a culture and community. Andrea R. Thompson has woven African dance forms into her body for the last 15 years. Andrea studies, teachers, and performs Afro-Brazilian Samba, North African Belly Dance and Afro-Cuban. She has danced with "Sarava", "AshéMoyubba " and now dances with“Alafia”, an Afro-Cuban folkloric company. She has taught Afro-Cuban Dance at the University of the District of Columbia and Howard Community College and has presented on folkloric dance at the Congress of Research in Dance (CORD).
